Paper Darts Pop-Up at SooLOCAL in Minneapolis

Here is a photo of me pretending to operate a tape measure near my paintings for the Paper Darts Pop-Up at SooLocal in Minneapolis, MN:

"Paper Darts has invited over twenty-five different organizations, artists, and writers to transform a South Minneapolis storefront gallery into an ace showcase of the Twin Cities’ thriving creative communities. Steel yourselves and clear your calendars for over twenty events in a short six week period.

In partnership with SooLOCAL, a division of SooVAC, this six-week spectacle will celebrate storytelling by bringing writers, sculptors, publishers, culture and literary mags, illustrators, improvisers, video game experts, comic artists, musicians, poets, GIF artists, and stage actors together in one space to celebrate the sweet-tasting cyclone that results when lit and art collide.

My paintings (shown here) will be on display for the duration of the program- from the opening reception on June 1- the closing on July 20th.

AND

Paperdarts is hosting a writing contest involving my art:
"Jennifer Davis’s enthralling paintings will sit at the heart of our storefront for storytellers. Once you, storyteller, have inevitably fallen in love with the world of Davis’s paintings, we invite you to create 500 words inspired by her work. Submissions can be made through the Paper Darts website. One story will be selected for publication by Paper Darts."

Buy Some Damn Art #2

DayDreamer, 8x8x1.5", acrylic/graphite/silver-leaf on mounted panel

I have just released 6 new, little paintings via Buy Some Damn Art!
Buy Some Damn Art is the brainchild of ArtHound.com's Kate Singleton.
Each Tuesday BSDA launches a new show by a different artist; the featured artwork is available for purchase on the site for six weeks.

This is my second show with BSDA and this time I made a series of six 8x8" paintings fueled by extreme cabin fever and hand-decorated with silver and gold leaf.
I did a mini-interview about them here.

Where My Art Lives Now * Part 2

Every so often one of my lovely patrons posts/sends me a photo of my art in their home.
I just love seeing where my art lives now and thought I'd share a few of the photos here.
Always fun to peek into other people's spaces, yes?

"A Certain Reality" at grayDUCK gallery

We have been so fortunate to receive some great press for
"A Certain Reality"
(new mixed media paintings by David Ball, Jennifer Davis and Megan Kimber) at grayDUCK gallery in Austin, TX.

* Austin Magazine features an interview with all three of us and lots of pictures from the show. (Vol.2, Issue 4, p. 6-9)

* A nice big photo of my painting, "Jump" in Austin 360 Magazine. "An indie gallery with a fresh, young vibe. On view is 'A Certain Reality,' featuring three artists who create delicate yet complex ethereal landscapes and characters with mixed-media collages from David Ball and paintings from Jennifer Davis and Megan Kimber."

* LaMono Magazine (of Barcelona Spain) published a little review of my new paintings- with lots of photos > http://lamonomagazine.com/jennifer-davis/

"Seaside" by Megan Kimber

* The Austin Chronicle said, "Warning: If you take a sneak peek at the show on the website, you probably won't be able to keep yourself away from the gallery; this work is compelling." (Read the full review here.)

* I did an interview with and Italian Art and Design blog,
"Make Me Happy Today." (I used Google Translate to read it.)

My paintings were also featured at Juxtapoz, Paint Pens In Purses, and OMG Posters!

Thank you everyone for all of your kind words about our paintings!
And special thank you to grayDUCK gallery for hosting our work. What a great experience...

You can view all of my paintings from the show here, Megan and David's work here, and photos from my trip to Austin here. The show runs through March 30th, 2013.

My trip to Austin, TX

Earlier this month I made a whirlwind visit to Austin, TX to attend the opening for a show of my new paintings, "A Certain Reality" at grayduck gallery. My BF, Brad, and I had a blast and took a ton of photos so I thought I'd share a few here...

We checked into our hotel, had a quick lunch at Bouldin Creek Cafe (our favorite spot for hippy food) and then headed straight to the opening reception at the gallery.

The view from outside the gallery is so neato.  I took 80 bazillion variations of this photo.

You can view all of my paintings from the show here.

Hey, look- Boo was at our opening! (I'm lying but the owner of this doggie said, "He gets that all the time.")

View the works by Megan Kimber (pictured) and David Ball here

The following night was the Art Alliance Austin's annual "Art Night Austin." What an amazing event!
It was a tour of seven galleries throughout Austin. Each location featured food from a different restaurant- and a different cocktail- and buses arrived every 20 minutes to carry gallery go-ers to the next stop.
I was so honored to participate as an artist in the show at grayduck gallery- AND I got to sneak away for a little while to take the tour.

GIANT, golden, gilded security camera art at Yard Dog.

Tons of beautiful repurposed signage and neon at Roadhouse Relics.

Back at grayduck! THANK YOU and goodnight!

We didn't have much free time during our visit but we spent one afternoon exploring on foot.

We popped over to the White Horse to visit our pal Lori (from Minneapolis!) She runs their super rad patio flea market on Saturday afternoons.

Here's Brad smokin a pretzel at "Easy Tiger". (Cut him off!)

Here's Brad atop the Graffiti Wall.

A dude at work on the wall.

Oh, just a pretty pink house.

Skate park.

Oh, Austin.

Tacos on the sunny patio with Andre and Paola and then it was time to head back to the frozen tundra.
I love you, Austin!
