Goodbye, Tree Ribbons!

I am (so relieved and) happy to report that my collaboration with Chris Schlichting at the Walker Art Center this past weekend was a great success! Here are some photos:

40+ big, long, stripe-y, hand- painted, paper tree "ribbons" blowing in the breeze behind the stage!

Ribbons, Dancers, and the Band with audience. It finally came together!

A short video to capture the breezy-ness and dreamy music.

Close up of some hand-painted ribbons.

Practicing before the show- and desperately hoping we can pull it off.

Dancers and band on stage.

Ribbons- painstakingly painted and ready to roll!

Dustin and Nick performing part of the show on the bridge! So beautiful!

Kenna Cottman and her crew performing their fun and energetic magical sand dance.

I snuck away between sets to wander around the galleries for a bit and fell madly in love with Fritz Haeg's GIANT hand woven rag rug.

Thank you and Congratulations, Chris on putting together such a magical show.
Thank you to the beautiful and talented dancers: Mary Ann Bradley, Krista Langberg, Laura Selle Virtucio, Sophie Thaden, Max Wirsing, Nick LeMere, and Dustin Maxwell and to the musicians for creating the perfect music- Jeremy Ylvisaker, Mike Lewis, and JT Bates. Thank you, Sophie Thaden for making a costume just for me. (I stole it and plan to parade around in it often.) Thank you Coal, Amy, Judy, and everyone else that volunteered their time to help us pull it off. Thank you Walker Art Center for hosting this event and supporting these Choreographers by commissioning original dance works.
I am so honored to have had the opportunity to work with these amazing artists!
And now...I nap.

Walker Art Center!

Making art in the Sculpture Garden.

Please join me at the Walker Art Center this Sat, Aug 3rd for the Scultpure Garden's 25th Anniversary Party!

I am collaborating with Chris Schlichting (City Pages Best Choreographer 2013) for his new "Momentum at 10" dance work.
(Don't worry- I WILL NOT be dancing!

Performances at 11am and 2pm- FREE, FUN, outdoors!

"Now it its 10th edition, the Momentum: New Dance Works series introduces the next generation’s most promising choreographers and offers a snapsot of Minnesota’s contemporary dance landscape. In celebration of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden’s 25th anniversary, three Momentum alumni perform dances newly commissioned by the Walker as part of the Free First Saturday festivities.
Kenna Cottman presents a group dance and drum performance based on Senegalese “lutte” wrestling and the choreographed ceremony around the fight spectacle. Chris Schlichting, named City Pages’ 2012 choreographer of the year, offers a follow-up to his acclaimed Matching Drapes. Kaleena Miller creates a percussive piece with live music and tap dance."
